Prices & Inflation

Keep the older national inflation series separate from current monthly food-market prices.

Two different measures

World Bank consumer-price inflation stops in 2019; the WFP dashboard reports each governorate’s monthly median across monitored markets from 2011. One commodity price is not a national inflation index.

Market prices collected monthly by the World Food Programme from market monitors since 2011. Sanad publishes, per governorate, the median of that governorate's market prices for the month — not a single market and not below the governorate. SYP and USD are separate series (USD is converted at the exchange rate at collection time). Some values are WFP "aggregate" figures. Unofficial/parallel-market exchange rates are not included.

Reading limits

Price changes may reflect inflation, supply, seasonality, or a changing market sample. The USD series uses the conversion rate at collection and is not a parallel-market rate.
